This year (2010), Assumption University is celebrating 40 years of its service to humanity. One of the significant events to mark this celebration is the inauguration of Montfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design.

School of Architecture was initiated in 1997 with the the establishment of Departments of Architecture and Interior Architecture. Only in December 17, 2009, the name was changed to Montfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design, first to honor Rev. Bro. Montfort del Rosario who was then a great constructor at Assumption College Sriracha, and to add "Design" as another department to the school.

While the University is celebrating its 40th anniversary, School of Architecture and Design has been in its existence for over 13 years. It is auspicious and a great honor for all of us that HRH Pricess Maha Chakri Sirinhorn will officially inaugurate the building that houses School of Architecture and Design on December 7, 2010. May I take this opportunity to congratulate the dean and his team (all faculty members in the school) for their untiring effort in educating our students and training their minds, and in shaping the habits of the young. They sacrifice their lives and time in contributing to the growth of the school and the University.

I wish one and all God's blessings, for both those who teach and those who learn. Through engagement and collaboration, they can reach their goals together. May this new house bring facilities, spaces, and equipment to enhance studies. May it also bring about learning creating more engagement in teaching, learning and relationships so as to bring familial atmosphere within the school. Most of all, may God bless them with peace, happiness and prosperity.

Bless this Montfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design, O Lord, we pray. Make it a source of light and life to assist those who enter herein.

AR4101 Field Trip

During 9-11 October 2009, the School of Architecture and Design took the students to visit Pisanulok, Sukhothai and Lopburi Province as a part of the study for the course, “AR 4101 -History of Thai Architecture”. The School invited A. Son Srimatrang of Silpakorn University to be our guide. The program started early in the morning. First day, the students had a chance to visit Sgt.Maj.Thawee Folk Museum and Wat Phrama Thart, Phitsanulok. Then on the secound day we visitted Sukhothai and Srisutchanalai Historical Park. And on the last day we visitted Lopburi National museum(Narai Rajaniwaj) and Historical Park.

the 26th Interior Boutique Show at the Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon, Bangkok,during 10-13 September 2009.

"Interior in Trend 2009," which is supported by the Interior Architecture and Interior Design Academic Council of Thailand (IAIDAC) provided spaces for Interior Design Companies and Interior Architecture, Interior Design Institutes in Thailand.

The purposes of the exhibition in the Academic 'Zone were to present students' works in terms of the innovative ideas and the design practicalities to the public, and also to encourage the students
from all Interior Design Institutes in Thailand to have an opportunity to participate in the workshop during the exhibition.

For this current year, "Life in the city" is the theme of this year. Our concept is "The contradiction of city" which always has two sides. It may has beauty in front but may hide the ugliness at back. For the result, we won the 2nd price for booth compettition.

เว็บไซต์ www.pm.go.th เป็นเว็บไซต์ประจำตำแหน่งนายกรัฐมนตรี ซึ่งจัดทำขึ้นเพื่อเป็นช่องทางให้ประชาชนสามารถเข้าชมความคืบหน้าการทำงาน ตามนโยบายของรัฐบาล สามารถสื่อสารถึงรัฐบาลได้ เนื้อหาในเว็บไซต์นี้อนุญาต ให้สามารถทำซ้ำดัดแปลงและเผยแพร่ต่อได้ โดยไม่ต้องขออนุญาต

“เราอยากจะให้เว็บไซต์พีเอ็ม มีความเป็นยูนีก (เอกลักษณ์) แล้วก็ถ้าใครเข้ามาดูข่าวสาร ก็มีลิงค์ไปที่เว็บของกระทรวงต่างๆ ได้ ซึ่งข่าวสารก็น่าสนใจในแง่ที่มีความน่าอ่าน อ่านง่ายขึ้น ดูสบายตา เด็กๆ ก็สามารถจะเข้ามาดูได้ ไม่เป็นทางการมากเกินไป แต่ก็ยังมีความเป็นทางการอยู่” พีรพัฒน์ วิมลรังครัตน์ เปิดใจ

ในช่วงหนึ่งเดือนกว่าๆ ที่ผ่านมา นอกจากจะถ่ายภาพขณะที่นายกรัฐมนตรีไปออกงานต่างๆ แล้ว พีรพัฒน์ ยังถ่ายภาพ นายกฯ อภิสิทธิ์ ในอิริยาบถสบายๆ และอิริยาบถอื่นที่คนทั่วไปไม่เคยเห็น

“นายกเป็นคนตั้งใจทำงานมาก เป็นผู้นำ แต่ก็มีมุมสบายๆ เป็นตัวของตัวเอง”

ในช่วงแรกๆ พีรพัฒน์ รู้สึกเกร็งที่จะถ่ายภาพนายกฯ อภิสิทธิ์ แต่ทั้งสองคนก็เริ่มปรับตัวเข้าหากัน

“ดูจากภาพก็ได้ว่า แรกๆ จะไม่ค่อยกล้าเข้าไปถ่ายใกล้ๆ แต่เหมือนท่านค่อยๆ แง้มประตู แล้วผมก็ค่อยๆ เดินเข้าไป”

นายกฯ อภิสิทธิ์ พูดคุยกับพีรพัฒน์ บ้างเป็นครั้งคราว ส่วนใหญ่เป็นเรื่องเกี่ยวกับรูปภาพและเว็บไซต์

เมื่อถามเกี่ยวกับเหตุการณ์ประทับใจ พีรพัฒน์ บอกว่า ทุกวันเป็นวันแห่งความประทับใจ

“มีอยู่วันหนึ่ง ท่าน (นายกฯ) บอกว่า รูปสวยดีนะ ก็ประทับใจ”

พีรพัฒน์ บอกว่า รู้สึกขอบคุณคุณสาทิตย์ ที่ให้โอกาสและไว้วางใจ ให้อิสระในการทำงาน

สาทิตย์ ให้กรอบการทำงานเอาไว้กว้างๆ ว่า ให้พิจารณาเอาเองว่าเมื่อใดควรถ่าย และเมื่อใดไม่ควรถ่ายภาพ

"เราต้องดูกาละและเทศะ ... พอเขาเริ่มคุยกัน เราก็ออกมา"

พีรพัฒน์ จะถ่ายภาพ อภิสิทธิ์ เวชชาชีวะ ในฐานะนายกรัฐมนตรีเท่านั้น

“งานของเราคือถ่ายภาพนายกฯ เราก็ถ่ายภาพนายกฯ เวลาที่ท่านทำงาน ถ้าเวลาส่วนตัวก็ไม่ถ่าย เพราะถือว่า นั่นเป็นเวลาส่วนตัวของท่าน เหมือนกับที่เราก็มีเวลาส่วนตัวของเรา”

เวลาส่วนตัวของพีรพัฒน์ คือ ระหว่างนั่งรออภิสิทธิ์ปฏิบัติภารกิจ และโดยมากวันหยุดจะเป็นวันอาทิตย์ หลังจากรายการ “เชื่อมั่นประเทศไทย กับนายกฯ อภิสิทธิ์” จบเรียบร้อยแล้ว ยกเว้นว่า นายกฯ จะมี "หมาย" หรือภารกิจอะไรเพิ่มเติม

“ความจริง ตอนที่ไม่ได้ถ่ายรูป เราก็จะรู้สึกแปลกๆ อยู่แล้ว ทำงานนี้ก็สนุก ไม่รู้สึกเหมือนทำงาน” พีรพัฒน์ กล่าว

พีรพัฒน์ เคยถ่ายภาพ พิมพ์เพ็ญ เวชชาชีวะ ภริยานายกฯ เพียงแค่ครั้งเดียว ในงานถวายพระพรวันเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษาสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าฯ พระบรมราชินีนาถ และเคยพูดคุยและทักทายเพียงสั้นๆ เท่านั้น

แม้เว็บไซต์นายกรัฐมนตรีไทย จะเป็นเว็บไซต์เพื่อการประชาสัมพันธ์ แต่สำหรับพีรพัฒน์แล้ว ไม่มีการวางกรอบว่าจะต้องเป็นภาพแบบไหน หรือต้องถ่ายภาพนายกฯ อภิสิทธิ์ให้ออกมาดูดี

“ผมไม่ได้มองตรงนั้น (เรื่องการประชาสัมพันธ์) ไม่อยากเรียกว่าเป็นการพีอาร์ เรียกว่าเป็นการนำเสนอมุมมองอีกแง่ที่ประชาชนสามารถรับรู้ ...เอ๊ะ หรือว่ามันคือการพีอาร์” พีรพัฒน์ กล่าวก่อนหัวเราะอย่างอารมณ์ดี

หากไม่ใช่การถ่ายภาพพิธีการหรือในสถานที่ที่ กว้างขวาง พีรพัฒน์ ถนัดและเลือกที่จะใช้เลนส์ 50 มม. ซึ่งให้มุมมองที่ใกล้เคียงกับสายตาของคนเรา เพื่อให้คนดูได้รู้สึกเหมือนอยู่ใกล้ๆ และเหมือนได้เป็นส่วนหนึ่งในเหตุการณ์ด้วยตัวเอง

“หลักการที่ใช้ในการถ่ายภาพ คือ ถ่ายยังไงให้คนชอบ ซึ่งที่จริง ต้องถ่ายให้ตัวเองชอบก่อน”

ความท้าทายของงานที่ พีรพัฒน์ ต้องปรับตัว คือ การถ่ายภาพจากสถานการณ์จริง ที่นายกฯ จะเคลื่อนไหวอยู่ตลอดเวลา ไม่ใช่ถ่ายแบบที่อยู่นิ่งๆ เหมือนเคย นอกจากนี้ ยังต้องปรับตัวให้สามารถหาตำแหน่งที่ยืนถ่ายภาพในงานต่างๆ ในขณะที่กองทัพช่างภาพสื่อมวลชนก็พยายามจะถ่ายภาพนายกฯ เช่นกัน

หากจะต้องติดตามนายกฯ ไปในเหตุการณ์ที่มีความเสี่ยง เช่น ในการชุมนุมของคนเสื้อแดงในช่วงสงกรานต์ที่ผ่านมา พีรพัฒน์ กล่าวว่า พร้อมที่จะติดตามไปถ่ายภาพนายกฯ

“ก็กังวลบ้าง กลัวว่า พ่อกับแม่จะเป็นห่วง แต่ตัวเองพร้อมที่จะไปอยู่แล้ว ไม่งั้นคงไม่รับงานนี้”

พีรพัฒน์ เล่าว่า ปกติไม่ได้สนใจการเมืองเป็นพิเศษ เพียงติดตามข่าวสารประจำวันโดยทั่วไปเท่านั้น เมื่อเข้ามาทำงานใกล้ชิดกับนายกฯ และรายรอบด้วยนักการเมือง ก็ทำให้สนใจติดตามข่าวสารการเมืองมากขึ้นเพียงเล็กน้อยเท่านั้น

“สนใจการเมืองเพราะเป็นสิ่งที่ต้องมี แต่ไม่ได้ฝักใฝ่หรืออินกับมัน”

นอกจากนั้น สิ่งที่พีรพัฒน์ ได้เข้าใจมากขึ้น ก็คือ ระบบราชการ “เข้าใจการทำงานของราชการและรัฐบาลมากขึ้น เช่น ขั้นตอนที่ซับซ้อน เราก็ เออ เป็นระบบนะ เรารู้สึกดี มองมันในแง่บวกมากขึ้น”

ความสนใจในการถ่ายภาพของพีรพัฒน์ เริ่มขึ้นตั้งแต่เรียนอยู่มัธยมปลาย เมื่อเขาหยิบเอากล้องของพ่อมาถ่ายรูปเล่นบ่อยๆ จนพ่อออกปากยกให้ ระหว่างนั้น พีรพัฒน์ ถ่ายภาพด้วยกล้องที่ต้องใช้ฟิล์มและพัฒนาฝีมือขึ้นไปเรื่อยๆ

พีรพัฒน์ จบการศึกษาจากคณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยอัสสัมชัญ ซึ่งเขาได้ฝึกฝนการถ่ายภาพและตระหนักมากยิ่งขึ้นว่าเขามีความรักในการถ่าย ภาพมากแค่ไหน

นอกจากภาพโมเดลและอาคารที่จะต้องถ่ายเพื่อ ประกอบงานส่งอาจารย์แล้ว พีรพัฒน์ บันทึกภาพเพื่อนและกิจกรรมที่ทำที่คณะตั้งแต่เรียนชั้นปีที่หนึ่ง

“อยากเป็นห้องสมุดภาพของคณะ” พีรพัฒน์ พูดพลางหัวเราะ “อยากเป็นคนที่ ถ้าใครอยากได้ภาพในช่วงนั้นแล้วจะต้องมาขอที่เรา”

กว่าที่พีรพัฒน์จะสมัครเรียนวิชาถ่ายภาพเป็น ครั้งแรกของชีวิต ก็เมื่อเรียนอยู่ปีสุดท้าย คือวิชาการถ่ายภาพเบื้องต้น ของคณะนิเทศศาสตร์ พีรพัฒน์บอกว่า วิชานี้ช่วยเปิดโลกทัศน์ มุมมองทางด้านการถ่ายภาพของเขาให้กว้างออกไป เมื่อมีสายตาหลายคู่ของอาจารย์และเพื่อนๆ มาช่วยกันดูและวิจารณ์ภาพถ่าย

พีรพัฒน์ มีรายได้พิเศษจากการรับถ่ายภาพตั้งแต่ยังเรียนอยู่ในมหาวิทยาลัย เมื่อเรียนจบ ก็ได้ถ่ายภาพให้กับนิตยสาร BEV ซึ่งเป็นนิตยสารทางสถาปัตยกรรม นิตยสาร BAD ซึ่งเกี่ยวกับการโฆษณา และนิตยสาร OOM ของสิริยากร พุกกะเวส

พีรพัฒน์ ไม่ได้คิดว่า การได้ตำแหน่งดังกล่าว จะนำอะไรมาสู่ชีวิตในอนาคต

“คิดว่าตัวเองได้โอกาส ในเมื่อมีโอกาสมา เราก็รับไว้ หลายคนอยากมาทำจุดนี้ มีไม่กี่คนที่ได้ทำ ช่างภาพเก่งๆ ก็มีเยอะ แต่เราได้โอกาส และเป็นจังหวะเวลาด้วย โอกาสไม่ได้มีมาบ่อยๆ ไม่เหมือนตลาดนัดจตุจักรที่คุณรู้ว่า เดี๋ยวเสาร์-อาทิตย์ก็มี ถ้าคุณไม่ตัดสินใจภายในห้านาที หรือกี่วินาที โอกาสนี้ก็จะลาคุณไป”

พีรพัฒน์ ถือว่าทุกวันนี้คือการได้ทดลองเรียนรู้สิ่งใหม่ๆ บนพื้นฐานของสิ่งที่รัก และได้พัฒนาฝีมือขึ้นไปเรื่อยๆ

ชื่อเสียงของพีรพัฒน์นั้น ไม่เคยเป็นที่รู้จักในวงกว้างมาก่อน เพราะไม่เคยส่งผลงานถ่ายภาพเข้าประกวด

“ไม่ชอบประกวด เพราะรู้สึกว่าไม่ชอบการแข่งขัน”

หนุ่ม “เต้-ไชยา” หรือชื่อจริงว่า “ประวิทย์ กิตติชาญธีระ” ผู้มารับบท “แกร่งศึก” นักมวยไชยา จากภาพยนตร์แอ็คชั่นเข้มข้น เรื่อง “ไชยา” ซึ่งนำเสนอศิลปะมวยไทยไชยาอันเก่าแก่ออกมาให้คนไทยได้รับชมไปก่อนหน้านี้ เป็นหนึ่งในบัณฑิตจบใหม่รุ่นล่าสุดจากรั้วเอแบค คณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ สาขาวิชาสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์ ก่อนจะมาเรียนที่เอแบค เต้ เผยว่าเคยเรียน ม.ปลายที่นิวซีแลนด์ และสนใจด้านมวยเป็นงานอดิเรก แต่ในระหว่างที่อยู่ที่นิวซีแลนด์ ค่าซ้อมมวยค่อนข้างแพง ทางเจ้าของค่ายเห็นว่าพอมีพรสวรรค์ทางด้านนี้ เลยให้เข้าฝึกเป็นนักมวยสังกัดค่ายมวยเป็นการแลกเปลี่ยน และได้ลงแข่งเป็นตัวแทนค่ายด้วย จนได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศชกมวยระดับประเทศที่นิวซีแลนด์ ซึ่งน่าจะเป็นเหตุผลหนึ่งที่ผ่านการคัดเลือกเป็นนักแสดงในเรื่องนี้

“เต้เป็นคนชอบวาดรูปและกิจการที่บ้านทำเฟอร์นิเจอร์ แบบครบวงจร จึงตัดสินใจเลือกเรียนคณะสถาปัตย์ ซึ่งช่วงนั้นกะว่าจะกลับไปเรียนต่อที่นิวซีแลนด์ แต่คุณพ่อแนะนำให้เรียนที่เอแบค เพราะที่นี่เปิดสอนเป็นหลักสูตรนานาชาติ จึงตัดสินใจเรียนที่นี่ แต่การเรียนสถาปัตย์กลับไม่ใช่เรื่องง่ายอย่างที่คิด ตอนแรกคิดว่าจบง่าย ปรากฏว่าเจออาจารย์ซึ่งเป็นระดับหัวกะทิ จบจากอเมริกา อาจารย์จะมีแนวคิดสมัยใหม่ สอนตามหลักสูตรเมืองนอก ผมเลยซึมซับแนวขบถมา คือ สถาปัตย์ที่ต่อต้านสังคม ไม่ตามกระแสโลก เรียนที่นี่ต้องทำโปรเจกต์ส่งตลอด นำเสนองานทุกเดือน”

“มีช่วงหนึ่งอาจารย์ให้เลือกหัวข้อ การทำโปรเจกต์ ผมเลือกทำโรงงานช็อกโกแลต เนื่องจากได้แรงบันดาลใจ จากภาพยนตร์ “Charlie and The Chocolate factory” อาจารย์เลยให้ลองศึกษา ถึงขนาดต้องศึกษาว่าเมล็ดช็อกโกแลตเกิดจากอะไร ต้องรู้ถึงจุดกำเนิดเลย” แต่แล้วกลับมาสิ่งที่ใกล้ตัวมากที่สุดและถนัดที่สุดกับโปรเจกต์ “Chaiya School of Thought” “เป็นชื่อโปรเจกต์ที่ผมได้ทำหลังจากโรงงานช็อกโกแลตไม่ผ่าน อาจารย์เลยแนะนำว่าให้ไปทำเกี่ยวกับมวยไชยาดีกว่า เพราะยังไม่ค่อยมีใครรู้จัก ผมก็คิดว่าดี เลยออกแบบโรงเรียนหรือสถาบันมวยไทยไชยา ซึ่งต้องมีการวิเคราะห์ (analyze) ก่อน คิดหลักปรัชญา (philosophy) สถาปัตย์สอนให้ผมเป็นคนพูดเก่ง เพราะต้องนำเสนองานตลอด ถ้าเราพูดไม่เก่ง เราจะขายงานไม่ได้ และถ้าเราไม่เชื่อในสิ่งที่เราทำ ก็เป็นไปได้ยากที่คนอื่นจะเชื่อเรา” หนุ่มเต้อธิบายแนวคิดของโปรเจ็กต์นี้ว่า ไม่อยากให้ค่ายมวยเป็นสถานที่ที่น่ากลัวสำหรับสายตาของคนทั่วไป แต่ต้องการให้รู้สึกอบอุ่นและเป็นที่พักผ่อนออกกำลังกายมากกว่า โดยการออกแบบโดมคลายรังนก ที่มี Folding ลักษณะเป็นคลื่นคล้ายท่าไหว้ครู ซึ่งนักมวยทุกคนต้องทำกันก่อนขึ้นชกมวย เป็นการแสดงถึงความอบอุ่นและความเคารพต่อผู้อาวุโสได้อย่างลงตัว เป็นแนวคิดที่น่าสนใจจริงๆนะครับ

สุดท้ายหนุ่มเต้อยากฝากบอกถึงน้อง ๆ ที่อยู่ในวัยเรียนว่า
“ถ้า จะเลือกเรียนคณะนี้ ไม่จำเป็นต้องเก่งเลข เก่งฟิสิกส์ หรือเก่งวาดรูปขอเพียงน้องๆ ชอบคิดและจิตนาการ เรื่องอื่นก็ฝึกฝนกันได้นะครับ”

A ‘Machine for Living In’ Might No Longer Fit!

Each year the School of Architecture and Design Lecture Series, aimed at expanding our horizon in art and design cultures, features various topics by inviting distinguished professionals and scholars to share with students and faculty members.

First in the series, the School held a lecture on "the Natural Structures: the Architecture of Change, the Archetype of the Future" on 24 November 2008 at the Monfort del Rosario Mini-Theater. The lecture was delivered by Veerapatt Teeravuticha, an architectural and interior designer who holds a BA (Interior Design) from Silpakorn University and MA (Emergent Technologies + Design) from the Architectural Association London (AA).

He shared his insight into a new tenable form-finding and form-making approach by an investigation of biomorphic structures. His in-depth research on the morphology was represented by a series of critical decoding of the embedded logic within life forms such as bones, bird wings, bamboo, cacti, and flowers.

Analogically, by getting to know the self-organized formal logic, a designer is hoped to find his rightful place in the design of architecture. And also, perhaps, he gains a more relevant formula for mankind. His discussion included a demonstration of computer software for generating this new complex forms. The students and faculty members of the Architecture and Interior Departments attended this lecture.

Faculty of Architecture, Assumption University, has moved from St. Louis Building in
Hua-Mark campus to Monfort del Rosario School of Architecture and Design Building, Suvarnabhumi campus, since May 26, 2008.

Montfort del Rosario is a brand-new, 11 - storey building of contemporary Architecture, with an area of about 5,000 square meters. It accommodates an auditorium cum lecture theatre, classrooms, design studios, computer lab, workshop, faculty offices and activity rooms. The lecture rooms are shared – facilities with other faculties for teaching and learning purposes.

Faculty of Architecture has changed its name to be School of Architecture and Design due to the fact that in the future there will be more new departments offering more design degree courses in the School.

School of architecture held last orientation ceremony for its graduates from department of architecture and interior architecture on March 21 2008 at Huamark Campus. Reverend Brother Prathip M. Komolmas , president emeritus, honored the opening speech and the last orientation program followed. Two guest speakers, Mr. Kittiratana Pitipanich, design advisory director from Thailand Creative & Design Center and Mr. Thanawat Sukakanon, managing director of Interior Vision Co., Ltd. joined in the discussion in the topic of "Professional Practice in Cross-cultural environment". The discussion touched on issues aimed at orienting graduates into their future professional work environment that has become more multi-national in the stream of globalization. Guess speaker also discussed the future preparation for entering the professional practice as well as advised on the further study which related to architecture and creativity. The program concluded with a presentation from Dr. Santithorn Bunchua, program director of the College of Internet Distance Education E-Learning, of programs in master and doctoral degree which provided the graduates with an alternative for their future.

The objectives of ACAU are the expansion network of academic establishments and amelioration of knowledge and experiences of Architecture and Urbanism shared by Asia's metropolises. The ACAU 2007 workshop was held for a third consecutive year since the first ACAU 2005 in Seoul, Korea. The ACAU participating institutions were:

The Workshop's theme this year was: "Making Global Cities - Linkages and Identity." The idea of a global city was generated from the realization that the Asian metropolises are being increasingly influenced by globalization trends in the form of multicultural exchanges, greater
individualaccess to cultural diversity, increasing travel and tourism, greater immigration and the
formation of universal values. There were 2 program tracks during the workshop:
student's studio and a paper presentation by a lecturer from each country.

The School of Architecture, Assumption University (AAU) has participated in an ASA Workshop 2007 - The 'Old Markets along Prawet Buri Rom Canal, an academic workshop in Architecture and Urban Design which was organized by the Association of Siamese Architects under the Royal Patronage. The Workshop took place during 26 March - 8 April 2007. This Workshop is one of the coalition programs among schools of architecture in Thailand for undergraduate students.

The ASA 2007 Workshop's topic was about the study of markets along Prawet Buri Rom Canal. These markets have been animated and prosperous in the past and also have been one of the Thai identity symbols. Regretfully, the city's expansion and the development of land transportation have gradually caused these invaluable markets to degrade.

The objective of this Workshop has challenged the architecture students to study
the aspects of these amphibious The Students: Thai architectures and traditional way of life.

During the two weeks of the Workshop, the students have stayed in the selected markets in order to study local people's activities and local architectures
both days and nights. During the fast day of the Workshop, the students exposed
their studies and proposed their ideas. The audience was composed of instructors from various architecture schools, students and local people. The outcome from this workshop enables the students to understand not only the process of research and collecting data but also the innovative thinking methods to solve and improve the quality of life in architectural so1utions.

The AAU student's works have been displayed in ASA Workshop 2007 (Thailand's biggest architecture exhibition) during 1-6 May 2007 at Impact Challenger Hail 1-3, Mueang Thong Thani. It is a great honor for Assumption University that it has won two awards in this event, namely;

(1) To encourage students from 1 st to 4 th year to fresh up and start their studio design in the second semester, gathering all students in the school to work and compete together.

(2) To challenge creativity, innovation, freedom in design.

(3) To promote the student work to the public and to practice their design and presentation skills.

Program:

This program focuses on designing New Interfaces for Musical Expression. The primary goal of this year competition is to encourage students to use their knowledge about design creativities with the relationship of the human body, interactivity, existing objects/technologies, and the aural environment to create the New Interfaces for Musical Expression. Student is asked to design a physical instrument for his/her performance. Basically, the gear must enable to play--making pleasant sounds for the audience.

Method:

-Students can submit their work individually or as a group of two or three people.

-Work will be presented to the studio instructors and graded as a part of one of the studio assignments (10%).

-The selected works will be nominated to the final performance.

-Nominees present and perform their design to the committee on Nov. 07, 2006 at Dr.Choop Plaza 1.00 PM. The winners of prizes will be announced on the same day.

Any materials can be used for making NIME.

อั่นแน่...เก็บงานเก๋ๆ ของเด็กๆ จาก ภาควิชาสถาปัตยกรรม ภายในคณะสถาปัตยกรรม ปีการศึกษา 2548 ของมหาวิทยาลัยอัสสัมชัญ มาฝาก เป็นการออกแบบโชว์รูมสินค้าที่น่าสนใจอีกชุดหนึ่ง โดยแนวคิดมาจากการศึกษาพฤติกรรม ของผู้บริโภคในแต่ละกลุ่มธุรกิจ อาทิ ธุรกิจรถ ร้านคอมพิวเตอร์ และธุรกิจขายช็อกโกแลต

ยังมีผลงานการออกแบบ โชว์รูมคอมพิวเตอร์ของแอปเปิล ที่ ลลนา พุ่มดอกไม้ เขาทดลองแบบดู เป็นโชว์รูมแค่ชั้นเดียวแต่ก็น่าสนใจไม่แพ้กัน ด้วยว่าโปรดักต์ของแอปเปิลชอบเล่นกับดีไซน์ดี ดังนั้นโชว์รูมทั้งหมดถึงเป็นสีขาว ตู้โชว์ ชั้นโชว์สีขาว ทำให้เครื่องแอปเปิลดูโดดเด่นขึ้นมาอย่างแรงนอกจากนี้ยังมีทั้งจุดแสดง สินค้า และเคาน์เตอร์คำแนะนำฟังก์ชัน การใช้งานอีกด้วย แต่จะสังเกตได้ว่าเป็นโชว์รูมที่ค่อนข้างโล่ง ทั้งนี้ส่วนหนึ่งของโชว์รูมยังเป็นศูนย์ซ่อมของแอปเปิลด้วย เพราะยังจะมีพื้นที่บางส่วนสำคัญลูกค้าไว้นั่งรอ

Field Trip to Singapore

From 24-26 March 2006, the School of Architecture organized the Architectural and
Urban Design field trip to Singapore. The trip was supervised by A. Sasitorn, A..Karan, A.Prima, and A. Pirn who brought 57 Architecture and Interior Architecture students to join special events in Singapore which included: 1:1 Citv, Architectural and Urban Design Gallery Architecture and Urban Design by URA (Urban Redevelopment Authority) and the National University of Singapore (NUS). This trip has broadened the students' view to expose to the international life-sized architecture experience. In Singapore city stands many exemplary works by international and local architects that demonstrate the diversity, creative and innovation in a practical way.

During the trip the students visited three themes of buildings, namely:

Theme 1; Old Building in New City: Visiting Chinatown& Kar Hast Square.

Theme2; Contemporary Building: Visiting Supreme Court, Odeon Tower, National Library, visit the Esplanade Theatre Architectural tour.

Theme 3: Urbanscapc and transportation linkage: Visiting City Link, Suntec City, Millenia Walk, Makina Square

The students had learned more about the City Conservation Guideline, the same climate, well architectural and urbandesign plan, better design for pedestrian awareness with recreation park added, international student architecture award winning, such as new bridge at Marina Bay.

Last Orientation

On 21 March 2006, the AU School of Architecture organized the "Last Orientation", an annual activity for the senior students at the Seminar Room. D Building, Mua Mak Campus. It was aimed at introducing the graduating student of AR 5 (5th class of the programs architecture and interior architecture) to the real-world exposure. President
Rev. Bro. Bancha Saenghiran delivered the Opening Speech on the preparation to work focusing on an awareness of theuniversity's vision and mission.

As a highlight of the event, the School invited the guest speaker. Mr. Duangrit Bunnag to share his perspective on architectural practice. Mr. Duangrit is a renowned architect who initiated his own firm about a decade ago. With the start of his design
firm in the midst of economic crisis of 1999, it maintained its growth consistently with his optimistic vision. Although it has not been long, but it was responsible for numerous projects, especially his "Costa Unta" and "III Thong Lo" projects which became "Talks of the Town", and many projects worth more than 40 million Baht.

In his lecture, Mr. Duangrit mentioned the "Ten rules of survival" in the real profession, part of which he included ethic and etiquette as well as
professional protocols. In his how-to lesson, he said that we had to begin a deal with client in a matter of professional fees. Architects and designers must also have interpersonal skills to deal with clients. Me also emphasized in architects' mission of up-lifting the society at large through their designs.

In the latter session. A. Thawatchai from ABAC Alumni Association (ABACA) introduced the participants the work of the ABACA, which would keep in-touch with them after graduation.

The session was closed with the speeches by Dean Pisit Viriyavadhana and Chairpersons Karan Paibuulert and Vatcharai Samakkamai.

On 25 January 2006, the School of Architecture received an honor from Prof. Pussadec Tiptus who gave a lecture on the topic of, "Reviewing Architecture in Thailand". It was held at room A7I, AU Hua Mak Campus. The lecture was mainly about her research in the evolution and transformation of the concept in architectural design in Thailand from 1995-2005.

Prof. Pussadee received many awards, not only from academic field such as the National Award for Distinguished Instructor in 2003 and the National Award for the Distinguished Researcher in Philosophy in 1993, but also from the Association of the Siamese Architects for her architectural design in several buildings.

The School of Architecture organized the 5th Annual Vertical Competition -"32+one"
at the court in front of the M Building on 3 November 2005.
The objective of this annual competition was to encourage the students from the 1st to 4th year to freshen up and start their studio design in the second semester, gathering the entire students in the School to work and compete with each other, and also to present the students' work to the public

According to Charles Darwin's Natural Selection, in order for any kind of creatures to survive in this world, it must learn how to evolve its own body to adapt to a certain new living environment. For this Competition, the referee let the students ask themselves that they are living in a certain environment where the normal bodv is able to survive or sustain. A pair of students are to design a device, which will perform as extended pan of 'any’ human organ, and will help the students to overcome, or overpower, the obstacle that they were set out.

Two students would team up and work through a series of exchanged ideas, discussion and a process of making the final solution. The students were only allowed 10 use corrugated papers and fabrics as a major construction object. Any glue was prohibited from this Competition. Moreover, students had to submit mock up device @ 1:1 scale and critical verbal presentation.

Finally, the students’ project would be judged by evaluation criteria such as conceptual creativity that considers how do students understand and reinterpret the question with their own individual creativity and pcrfonnancc that was to consider how do students transpose and apply their own concepts into the reality of constructed world.

ACAU 2005 Seoul Workshop
"The New Public Space in the Asian Metropolis”

ACAU is the acronym of the Asian Coalition for Architecture and Urbanism. It is a network of individuals and institutions sets up to conduct joint workshop on the key issues of architecture and urbanism shared by Asia's major metropolises. ACAU meets annually to conduct design, planning, and research workshops on a specific project of the host region.

‘ACAU 2005 Seoul Workshop' was held at the University of Seoul. Seoul, Korea, 15-26 July 2005 with the theme, "The New Public Space in the Asian Metropolis". The member universities which joined the Workshop included the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, the University of Seoul, and Assumption University (which was represented by two faculty members and eight students from the AU School of Architecture.

To end the 5-long years of study. the School of Architecture arranged for the
Last Orientation on 24 March 2005 held at Salle de Expo. Hua Mak Campus. The once-a-year event was intended to provide the graduating students a last formal talk by inviting keynote speakers to discuss about directions and jobs opportunities that they would proceed on after finishing the school. An impressive opening speech was delivered by Rev. Bro. Anupait P. Yuttachai who suggested that the students use the knowledge, intellectual and discipline as a compass to achieve their future. This was
followed by another keynote speaker Thinnakorn Rujinarong. the president of FIDA. The speakers also included A.Vatcharal Samakkamai and A.Kittiratana Pilipanich, Chairmen of the Interior Architecture and Architecture Departments. Assoc. Home for the Disparates

If you think that home design is just to provide rooms to accommodate people, it now seems to be an old fashion. You will be surprised that a lot more issues and strategies might have to be included for a custom-made design in order to specially build up more experience in residential space. Under a program that asked the students to rebuild a corner on ABAC Avenue, the second-year architecture studio started up by studying behaviors of three disparate users and then designed a place in that which would foster a better relationship among them. Tsunami Community Development

Working in conjunction with Association of Siamese Architects (ASA). School of Architecture undertook a community rebuilding program at Tung Wa, one of the Tsunami effected areas in the South, during 15-21 February 2005.

Led by our lecturers, the students from 1st - 3rd year look part in the on-site studio. Due to having a short period of time political issues, and factors regarding the minority tribe. 'Morgan' inhabitants, The team took actions promptly. Following the first day of overall discussions between the "Morgan' communities from around the area and the government officials, a site survey was carried out. Though proper equipments were not available, the students learned to improvise various techniques
to locate existing houses to be built. Trees, and natural infrastructure. The work lasted
for the first few days. A master plan of the designated 30 rai was designed and drawn up immediately. Perspective drawings were produced for visualizing purposes as well as implementation of preliminary site work.

This outside classroom activities was not only beneficial to ihe students as part
of on hand experiences, but more importantly, to the 'Morgan' community at Tung Wa.

The Department of Interior Architecture has been actively participating in several design competition, both locally and internationally. This year, the Department has sent a student representative to participate in the annual international design competition hosted by Space Media, which is an organization founded for promoting architecture and interior architectural design in Korea, Each year since 2001. Space-Media has hosted several international design competitions and has awarded many promising students, hence creating an arena for many students to disseminate their ideas.

As for the year 2005. the title for the competition was the term "NON" which refers to deriving an innovative concept that negates the status quo in order to create better and more creative interior space, The representative student was Mr Santi Sorasuparp
and was assisted by Mr. Tospon Pivasiripong and Ms, Siripom Sritaborvompaiboon. They are all from the third year in Interior Architecture Design V and was supervised by A. Vatcharat Samakamai - Chairperson of Interior Architecture Department, A. Porawan Kokiatsanti. A.Chutarat Laomanacharoen and A. Vilasinee Teparut.

The Final concept that guided the design solution was the term 'non-identity' - a slate in which interior space dissolves the real hypothesis was that without adhering to identity, humans would be closer to each other and able to create more innovations. The final design identity that each user usually has to mask their true self. The solution look an elevator as a case study for creating a non-identity environment.

The entry work entered the competition and was included in the final 12 work entries out of 80 works from all over the world which required an individual presentation. A
video presentation was then sent and the entry work has eventually won the "Grand
Winner Prize" of the design competition. The prize of 2,000,000 won was awarded for the grand winner prize and the entry work is exhibited on the web site (www.Spacc-prize.com) for the entire year

Goodbye Senior

The School of Architecture organized the "Goodbye Senior" event on 26 April 2004 at the Royal Bangkok Sports Club with the main objective of getting together and to bid farewell to the third batch of architecture graduates. There were about 50 participants, including faculty members and 1st to 5th year students. The event started at 18.00 and ended at 21.00. Everyone really enjoyed the evening and will surely have happy memories of this event.

Field Trip to Ayutthaya

On 20 August 2003, the School of Architecture brought the students to visit Ayutthaya Province as a part of a course on, "Thai Architecture". The School invited A. Son Srimatrang from Silpakorn University to be their guide. The program started early in the morning, giving the students a chance to visit the Ayutthaya Historical Park and see various archeological sites such as: Wat Phanan Cheong, Wat Yai Chai Mongkon, Wat Ratchaburana, Wat Phra Maha That, Wat Na Phra Men, and Wat Chai Watthanaram. This field trip was aimed at spreading the knowledge of preservation of arts and culture.

EXHIBITION ORGANISED BY FACULTY OF ARCHITECTURE.

The design of a portable seat is the team's solution to the congestion issue behind the Ramkhamhaeng University area. The idea is to improve the flow of pedestrian traffic.

On 16 August 2003, Dr. Chavalit Meennuch, Vice Rector for Administrative Affairs, and Associate Professor Pisit Viriyavadhana, Dean of the School of Architecture, jointly inargurated the exhibition titled "Body Works." The exhibition showcased the final effort of 42 fourth-year architecture students who participated in the workshop, by the same name, held.at ABAC'S School of Architecture. Ten institutions nationwide took part in the event: Kasetsart University, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, Mahasarakam University, Naresuan University, Rangsit University, Silpakprn University, Sripatum University, Thammasat University, and Wongchavalitkul University. The entire "Body Works" series has been generously sponsored by BPB Thai Gypsum.

The School had invited the internationally renowned architect Associate Professor Raveevarn Choksombatchai of the University of California at Berkeley to direct the workshop. Each student team was to investigate the quarry on the functioning logic of any 'body' within the diverse context of university and community lives in the neighborhood. The sites were chosen by each group as potential grounds on which they would 'map' their analyses and arrive at aunique 'set of operations', in order to further produce a design intervention on to the very same place.

A panel discussion followed in the same afternoon in Salle d'Expo.

The panel consisted of faculty members from Assumption University, Silpakom University, Kasetsart University, KMUTT, and Thammasat University. The discussion aimed to clarify various topics that are critical to the method of'mapping' used in the examination of the site during the workshop.

In parallel to the Body Works exhibition, in the same lobby area, the School of Architecture also presented the work of its second-year students. The project is called Siamese Twins, whereby pairs of students worked together to design an instrument that' represented the relationship between them, analogous to the idea of twins. The pairs express the quality of their relationship through a conceptual statement—opposing, reliant, trusting, dubious, reciprocal, etc. Each pair then delineated the characteristics through a one-to-one interactive design element.

The requirement of the design necessitated the project manipulation or the effect to be unique when the pairs come together. Some of them are useful only when the two meet; some of the programs transform themselves from single-user employment to double-user application.

Field Trip to Prachuap and Phetchaburi Provinces

During 18-20 July, the School of Architecture brought the fourth year students to Prachuap Khiri Khan and Phetchaburi Provinces as a part of the study on, "Site and Landscape Planning". The students had a chance to visit Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park and Tham Phraya Nakhon in Prachuap Khiri Khan, and Mrigadayan Palace and Phra Nakhon Khiri in Phetchaburi Province. The objective of the field trip was to emphasize the knowledge of performing a site survey, as well as to study historical architectural sites.

Thesis Exhibition '03 "Blitz"

AAU Thesis Exhibition 2003

During 12-15 May 2003, the School of Architecture, together with its 5th year students, held a public exhibition at the Siam Center, "AU Thesis Exhibition 2003" under the theme "Blitz". It was one of the School's annual activities. The show was mainly to present the thesis works produced by last year students from Architecture Department and Interior Architecture Department. Besides, it tended to address the School's academic direction that opened up a new design perspective to the public and in which students could introduce themselves to job opportunities.

There was a publication entitled, "365, Blitz", available in order to generate and sustain the momentum of the show to a wider area.
